MONOPOLY Here & Now: The World Edition
Badge tips Be aware of the 20 minute time limit for Purchasing Power, the one hour time limit for Aerial Advance, the two hour time limit for 2008 Limited Edition, and the one day time limit for Lady Lux and Pocket Money! Also be aware that you need to play on specific rules tabs for Aerial Advance (Official), Go Take a Chance (Pogo House), Pocket Money (Family), and Purchasing Power (Speedy)! For badges requiring you be paid rent, buy every unowned property you land on to increase your chances of collecting rents. For Ticket to Ride or Railroaded, a Transport space is the equivalent of a railroad on a traditional Monopoly board (the middle square of each block). The easiest way to get Ticket to Ride or Floating Money is to just keep clicking Roll and End Turn, and don't bother with auctions or trading. Eventually you'll get the badge(s). Getting Crowded Here, Jail Bird, and Big Roller are special Game Award badges, separate from rank progress. Starting the game with all players on GO doesn't count for Getting Crowded Here. Game tips ALWAYS read a game's How to Play, and also check for a Hints or Tips tab and/or Tutorial. They do help! Once you get used to the graphics, this game plays very much like traditional Monopoly, but with a wide array of options to play with any number of rules and settings, and a choice of five different game-style tabs to play in. Read the House Rules tab in the game's How to Play and experiment with the different tabs & settings until you find a style and pace you enjoy. If you play on the Pogo tab with default options, you can just click through your turns to move around the board and keep passing GO to rank up. The game ends after 35 turns and the player with the highest net worth wins. Like traditional Monopoly, the best way to come out ahead is to collect complete property color groups and then build on them so you can earn high rents when other players land on them. Owned properties will show an icon representing the playing piece of its owner. You can also mouse over any property on the playing area to get info about it. If a player lands on an unowned property and doesn't want it, an auction will take place. Auctions work similar to eBay bidding: if you want the property, place a bid for the maximum you're willing to pay and you'll stay in automatic bidding until you either win the property or the bidding exceeds your maximum. Trade offers can be made at any time and are self explanatory (once you get used to them). To initiate a trade offer, select the player you'd like to make an offer to, select the property and/or cash you're offering and the other player's property and/or cash you'd like. If a player wants to trade with you, you can accept or reject the offer, or make a counter-offer. You can build, mortgage, unmortgage, or make trade offers at the beginning or the end of your turn. The following quick ranking and game win method was submitted by Kathy, who recommends it only be used with Pogobots and not human players! Use the Custom tab to create a room. Turn all timers off (or set to Slow), $5.00M for landing on Free Parking, each player starts with 5 properties, double cash for landing on GO, and bankrupted players' property goes to the player they owe. Be sure to check Allow computer players to fill empty seats. On your first turn you will have to use almost all of your money. The goal is to buy at least one property of each color group to prevent the bots from building. You will have better luck trading with a robot who has two of a property as opposed to the robot who has one. Once you build up your cash again you will need to buy all properties in a color group. I usually start with the brown ones and go from there. Build it up as soon as you can. It may take a while to build up enough money to go for the next set of properties so just sit tight: eventually you will have lots of buildings while the robots have none. As each is bankrupted you can continue to build on the properties you earn from them. I average passing GO 12-15 times per game with each game lasting about an hour. More about MONOPOLY Here & Now: The World Edition This game is based on the classic board game, and includes a variety of rules options to reflect most everyone's favorite method of playing. The properties are laid out with the same color groups and the same ascending value around the board as traditional Monopoly, but property names, railroads and utilities reflect a global vision rather than names in & around Atlantic City like traditional Monopoly. Miscellaneous spaces like Chance, Jail and Free Parking are the same. Each player's game piece and owned properties are reflected in a small group of icons showing color bar stripes, transportation and utilities in groups of four that represent the four sides of the board, so it's easy to see at a glance who owns complete color groups. If a player owns Get Out of Jail card(s), they're shown under the owned properties. As you increase your rank, you have more game pieces to select from at the beginning of a game.
