Badge tips

Be aware of the 45 minute time limit for Qwicky!

Be sure to set Game Points to 1,000 when setting table options for the 5 Grand or Light Up the Board badges, and to 900 for the Fighting Words badge!

For badges requiring you make Connection Bonuses, concentrate on building up and to the right toward your opponent's tiles. This one is fairly easy to get against Pogobots as they will rarely (if ever) make a Connection Bonus.

For badges requiring words of certain lengths, concentrate on making words of the length you need. Make good use of letters (and blanks) that turn short words into longer ones. For instance, START can become RESTART, STARTS, STARTER, STARTING, STARTLE, etc.

For bages requiring you capture stars, check "Always arrange the stars in the same pattern" on the table options. You'll get used to where they are and will be able to form similar patterns to reach them in each game.

For a faster Blankety-Blank badge, exchange all your tiles every turn for better chances at getting blanks.

Game win badges can be easily earned playing against Pogobots as they aren't very good at this game, particulary on the Social or Beginner tabs. You can also alternate wins with a friend or cooperative partner. For faster badges, the designated loser can Pass on each turn.

See Game tips for more help with game win badges.

Game tips

ALWAYS read a game's How to Play, and also check for a Hints or Tips tab and/or Tutorial. They do help! Click to watch the QWERTY tutorial.

Even not-great players can almost always win against Pogobots.. they just aren't very good at this game in Social or Beginner rooms.

You earn more points for longer words, covering gold stars, connecting your words to your opponent's, and for using J, X, Z and Qu - even if you use a Blank for those letters.

You can earn more points by planning ahead for the next move. Example: suppose you can play TEAR in a downward direction. Consider playing EAR, then use the T in the next turn to make TEAR as well as a horizontal word containing T. You can almost always do this with an S. Example: if you can play TRAPS horizontally, play only TRAP on the first turn and turn it into TRAPS on the next, along with a vertical word containing S.

Don't just think about lengthening words by adding endings - you can often add letters at the beginning of words also. Example: EAR could become BEAR, DEAR, FEAR, GEAR, HEAR, etc.

Placing letters in tight "clumps" that form several words horizontally and vertically will make high scores but they're tricky to do. Use the 2 Letter Words button to see which 2 letter words are legal in QWERTY whenever you think you can make a "clump".

Use the Mix Up button if you're stuck. Rearranging your letters will often show you something you didn't know you had.

Don't be afraid to test out words even if you're not sure they are words - the Enter button will light up when a play is legal. Set the table options to no timer to have more time to experiment if you play against a Pogobot, but remember that a human opponent might not want to wait for you to try every combination.

If you have really bad letters, it's usually worthwhile to forfeit a turn to trade some or all of them in for new ones, particularly if you're playing against a Pogobot.

More about QWERTY

This game is based on, and very similar to, the classic board game Scrabble.

This game's How to Play says the Qu tile is worth 30 points, but the game's animated Tutorial says it's worth 20 points.

When trying out different words, you can right-click letters to take them off the board and return them to your hand.

You don't need to win any games to advance in rank or earn tokens. Ranks are based only on how many tiles you play. You'll get one token for every point you earn in a game, win or lose.

Click on your rank icon at the lower left to see how many tiles you need to play to reach the next rank.

This game ranks up relatively fast thru Rank 6 and fairly consistently after that. Even though the rank requirements don't go up exponentially like many games, it still takes a lot of time & dedication to finish QWERTY and earn its final badge.

53 new ranks and five Game Award badges were added to this game in October 2007.

You can use the QWERTY Board to write messages with words earned at various ranks. QWERTY Boards can only be seen by players at the same table.

QWERTY are the letters across the left top row of a standard typing keyboard.
